How do I set a Proxy Exception in Ranger Administrator?

These instructions refer to Version 4.4.1.44 of Ranger Administrator, but other versions may have a similar layout.

When a workstation starts up, the Ranger policies are the last to be applied. As such these policies overwrite any others set by applications such as Active Directory, including any Internet Explorer proxy exception settings.

To make changes to proxy exceptions using Ranger:

  1. On the file server navigate to Start | Programs | Ranger | Ranger Administrator
  2. In the left hand pane browse to Windows Ranger | Security | Groups | <Relevant Group>
  3. In the right hand pane select the Internet tab. The Proxy server and Port are listed here.

There is no facility to set exceptions in this location. If an exception needs to be made, you need to clear the Proxy Server Address and Port Server Port fields and continue with the next steps (the Start URL can be left completed):

  1. Select Edit | Settings
  2. Click on the Environment tab, then the Windows 9x/Me tab.

  3. Click Add and select the Proxies.adm file. This will add the proxy policy to all groups.

  4. Select the Windows NT/2000/XP tab and repeat Step 3.
  5. Navigate to Windows Ranger | Environment | Windows 9x/Me | Groups | <Relevant Group> | Policies
  6. In the right hand pane select Proxy.adm | Internet Explorer and check all versions of IE.

  7. Highlight each version in turn and set the proxy and proxy exceptions in the lower right hand pane.
  8. Repeat for each group as necessary.
  9. Navigate to Windows Ranger | Environment | Windows NT/2000/XP | All Groups | Default Policies and check all versions of IE. Highlight each version in turn and set the proxy and proxy exceptions for each.

  10. When all the required changes have been made, click Apply.
