KnowledgeBox version:
1.0
The KnowledgeBox can be installed on existing servers, but due to the complexity of the programming involved with the KnowledgeBox, it is not easy for the KnowledgeBox to be installed on just any server. The KnowledgeBox is not a standalone software package. It is consistently updated with content and any data created or modified by teachers or pupils are also backed up onto central servers to ensure no work gets lost. (Please be aware, only Knowledgebox work is backed up. If the server is also used as a file server, i.e. with network drives, the files on these drives are not backed up). This requires the server that the KnowledgeBox is to be installed on, to be fully tested on test boxes prior to installation. So far these tests have only been carried out on the following types of servers:
- Equiinet Cachepilots
- RM cacheboxes
- Appliansys cachebox (the KnowledgeBox can run on this as well, but this will require a call to Appliansys to obtain a license to enable the KnowledgeBox)
Please also take note, we may only install on one of the above servers if the server is owned by the school. If the server is on loan from another organisation, permission would need to be obtained from the company loaning the box.
An alternative to having the KnowledgeBox installed on an existing server, if your server is not one of the above, is to purchase a "Basic" server, which only offers Knowledgebox and can be used alongside a caching server.
Refer to this link to help identify whether your server is one of the above. http://centraal.uk.knowledgebox.com/kbase/idx/0/023/article/What_type_of_KnowledgeBox_server_do_I_have.html
