Knowledge Base CD-ROMS Exam Tutor Safari incompatibility

Safari incompatibility

Problem:
When running an Exam Tutor title under Mac OS X and with the default browser set to Safari, the papers open correctly in Adobe Reader, but the Live Learning (animated answer) links open a blank browser window.

Affects:
Macintosh OS X, Safari, Flash Player.

Cause:
Safari does not permit the concurrent execution of the required .swf Flash files.

Solution:
Currently the only solution we recommend is to install an alternative browser e.g. Firefox (http://www.mozilla.com/firefox/all.html).

You may also need to configure the file-type .swf to open by default into the alternative browser:

  1. Browse the installed content folders and locate a file with a .swf file extension. Click on the file to highlight it.
  2. Press Apple-i on the keyboard (get info.)
  3. Choose the 'Open with...' drop-down menu item.
  4. Select your alternative browser e.g. Firefox.app
  5. Click 'Change All'

You will need administrative privileges to perform this change.
