VLE deployment of CD-ROMs

Problem:
You wish to deploy your CD-based content on VLE but are experiencing difficulty

Cause:
This may be caused by any (or several) of the following issues:

  • No manifest data or content pack provided.
  • Timeout on upload.
  • Timeout on deployment.
  • Other error

Solution:

  • You may choose to create your own manifest using a re-packaging tool.

    - Note that an HTML launch file may be present (to launch the product as a single object)
  • Packs may be too large for your VLE system.

    - You should be able to reconfigure your VLE system to permit larger uploads (or manually place the required files on the server without recourse to a web interface.)
  • Your bandwidth (to upload) may be compromising your ability to place the pack on your server.

    - Some providers offer an assisted upload service, send the pack to your VLE service provider.
    - You may wish to replace some of the larger files with dummy files (e.g. replacing larger video files with a place-holder) if you are only making the product available on VLE for home users.
  • Once the product is uploaded the time taken in decompressing the pack (to make it available) may be exceeding permitted limits.

    - You may wish to unpack the data from supplied zip files and re-create the zip with NO compression - although this will make the pack larger, it will expedite the unpack process.

Although we are not yet offering disaggregated VLE packs, when these become available they will be published from this web article.
