Windows 2000 and XP are multi user operating systems which store different profiles for each user that logs on. Internet settings are included in these profiles, so each user will have their own unique internet settings as well. To change the internet settings to affect all users that log on it is best to use Group policy editor. (Group policy editor is not available on XP home edition). Please keep in mind that with RM networks this may be different. Have a look at the screen dumps below. So its just Start..Run.

Type in gpedit.msc and enter then the following screen appears.

Navigate to Computer Configuration…Administrative Templates…Windows Components…Internet Explorer.

Double click on Make proxy settings per-machine, which will bring up the following window.

Choose Enabled and Ok. Then navigate to User Configuration…Windows Settings…Internet Explorer Maintenance…Connection.

Double click on Proxy settings which will bring up the following window.

If the school uses a proxy, ensure the 'Enable proxy settings' is ticked and the proxy name and port are filled in. Then check the exceptions and put the KnowledgeBox ip in there. So in the above example, 10.150.127.76 will be the ip address of the school’s knowledgebox. If there is an entry in the box already, add a semi-colon then put the IP address in. Then ok everything and it does not require a restart, but you may want to test it on another user.
