KnowledgeBox will not authenticate on a Microsoft ISA Managed Proxy Server

In order for KnowledgeBox to authenticate on an ISA Microsoft Managed Proxy Server, the administrator login and password is usually used. There have, however, been some occasions where this authentication has not been accepted from the KnowledgeBox Server, despite allowing access to unauthenticated workstations such as an engineer’s laptop.

In order to allow the schools KnowledgeBox server to connect to the KnowledgeBox back end servers for the purposes of backing up and updating resources and software, the 'authentication request required for unauthenticated users' in the ISA Management will need to be switched off.

To switch this off…

  1. Select Start | Programs | Administrative Tools | ISA Management.
  2. Right click the server object and select properties.

  3. Select the ‘Outgoing Web Requests’ tab.

  4. Make sure that ‘Ask unauthenticated users for identification’ is unchecked.
  5. Remove any authentication settings from the KnowledgeBox Administration pages, and try connecting to the Proxy Server again.
