The Brief:
This will install all the plugins required to access KB on any networked workstation after it has been configured for the school.
What It Does:
· Copies Shortcuts to Start Menu and Desktop of all users
· If PC is RM Classmate XP the shortcut will be copied to all RM users
· Sets Proxy settings and exceptions (sets for the current user only)
· Automatically installs the Plugs in required for KnowledgeBox:
o Flash
o Java
o RealPlayer
o Acrobat
(For details of which settings are set see this document)
- Checks IE to see if it reaches the minimum spec of IE 6
- Checks to see if Yahoo or Google toolbar are installed (will prompt for removal if detected)
What It Doesn’t Do:
Install on Windows 98 PCs
Will not run correctly on Windows NT PCs
It wont set proxy settings in some managed networks (eg Active Directory)
It wont add shortcuts to the desktops in some managed networks (eg Active Directory)
How To Use It:
Unzip the file below to a USB key or CDROM then run “Copy KB Installer to the Network.exe” from a school PC.
Follow the Wizard to Copy the installer to a central location on the schools server and set the details of the KB server (IP address & Proxy Settings).
Once this is complete run KBSetup.bat (the one that is on the schools server) on all the PCs in the school.
