How do I assign a Site ID to a KnowledgeBox?
This article applies to:

KnowledgeBox version: 1.0

Please refer to the glossary for an explanation of Site ID. To have a Site ID created you will need to contact KnowledgeBox customer services or technical operations.

The Site ID is gets assigned to a KnowledgeBox via the KnowledgeBox administration pages. Please refer to this article How_do_I_log_in_to_the_administration_pages_of_my_KnowledgeBox.

Once logged you will get the following page. Click on System engineer setup options.

You will be prompted to enter a login name and password. Please contact Customer Services for these details.

After a successful log on, the following screen will appear.

It is always best to have a look at a few details of the KnowledgeBox before assigning a Site ID. So click on the “System Checks” link. This will query the KnowledgeBox and will return these useful details. It may take a little time to download the page.

Click on the link “Edge server information”. This will take you down to the relevant section on the page. Every KnowledgeBox will have a Machine ID. This is shown in red next to “Machine id in the knowledgebox properties file is:”. In the example below it is 0010E003E84D. If this entry is not there, then the KnowledgeBox has not registered itself with the central servers. In this case please refer to How do I register my KnowledgeBox with the central servers?

Have a look under the section “The following lock files exist:”. Refer to "Lock files" in the Glossary for an explanation . A Site ID can only be assign if the message says "No lock files exist" as shown in the screen print above. If there are any lock files showing, wait till these are completed before continuing (Just refresh the page until the message “No lock files exist” shows). If the lock is taking longer than 15 minutes to clear, please refer to How_do_I_view_andor_remove_lock_files?

Click on the link at the top “System engineer setup options” to take you back to the System engineers main menu and click on “Modify Site ID”. This will then show the following screen.

Type in the Site ID that is assigned to this school. Please be very careful when assigning a Site ID and make sure it is the correct Site ID before clicking the “Set new site ID” button. This will overwrite any existing school information on the box and replace it with the information on the central servers (if box is assigned with a new Site ID the default school information will be assigned to the KnowledgeBox) and a screen will appear which shows the information that was downloaded to the KnowledgeBox. If you scroll to the bottom of this edit box, ensure that there is comment at the bottom showing "All done". If this comment appears, the site Id has been successfully set up on the KnowledgeBox.
